Repeating a AP under Amateur rules could be a touchy matter. All it would
take is the first person going to a site with vulgarity or porn to be in
violation of part 97. The third party traffic rules may also apply.

Also a problem (although not of much worry on most public nodes) WEP, I'm
sure using that would also violate the provisions of clear and open
communication.

There are also specific rules to running repeaters that couple be a problem.
Control operators, remote telecommand, even the need for repeater
coordnation (provided the FCC takes the stand on treating 802.11 repeaters
as typical FM and ax.25 digipeaters).

Not mentioning this to rain on anybody's parade, but just a couple things I
see as setbacks. I'm all for the ARRL's recent push for 802.11 based
amateur networks, but interfacing it to a public network is just a bit
hairy.

I'll shut up and go back to calling CQ on 20 meter PSK31 now.

high speed DSL or Cable to share but I do own a 3 story house in Windsor
Terrace and would be willing to putup the Antenna and other neccessary
equipment if not too cost prohibitive(short on funds courtesy of 2 baby
girls) and of course we'd need to clear this with whoever's NYCWireless AP
we repeated.
>
> Is this feaseable or am I having a pipe dream? I assume 2 AP's an Antenna
and at least one Computer are neccessary for this eh? The Aluminum Waveguide
Antenna Kevin mentioned makes this idea seem reasonable to me but I'm new to
802.11b

adding an Amp is in my reach again if not prohibitively expensive ;-)

unwired but of course we all know my Ulterior motive is gain a good local AP
;-)
