Hello Alex and all,

See about borrowing a better AP, such as a Cisco 350 (or eBay ~$325)
or a Proxim ORiNOCO line (new $130) AP to replace the AP functionality in
your combo device. The coverage will improve. As per your ideas, #1 is an
idea (I would borrow it as well to test). I would avoid standalone repeating
since that tends to break Windows and Apple file sharing traffic, web
surfing works though. The DLink DWL-900AP+ is an off-the-shelf example of a
repeater that breaks such. I personally would run a ethernet to the other
floor and then buy an access point for that floor. Make sure you bridge via
that new 2nd floor AP (meaning have the Linksys router hand out IP
addresses).

Good luck,
-Ben
