from what i know ull need samba enabled and on the same workgroup on the
linux box to see the win98 machines ... for the win98 machines make sure
they are on the same workgroup and try using a sniffer (ethereal/windump) to
see whats happened and that you see the netbios packets announcing
themselves.  normally from what i know on w98 u'll probably need to reboot a
few times ...

try:
nbtstat -R
nbtstat -a [name]
nbtstat -A [ip]
