Hello Tim,
I had similar questions about Proxim "improving" upon Lucent's
(ORiNOCO, Avaya, Agere, etc) designs so I did a bit of research. And it
looks like they haven't messed with the output power of the new 802.11b
cards or made any major changes. I haven't scientifically tested antenna
design though. The one BIG deal is the lower power consumption Proxim cards
use as compared with Linksys and DLink.
As per G, not sure about NetStumbler (good Q though). And "A", I
think it uses too much power and have never seen one in action. I would skip
the ABG cards, and stick with BG cards.
Use one of those price scouts, such as pricegrabber.com to find some
low prices. Please, let's not start a discussion on this, I know, there are
many more.
