I thought perhaps the problem was that pebble is designed to output to
serial rather than graphics, so perhaps if I get a old 9pin serial port
on the machine I can test my theory.

I've had this problem with Pebble also.  The Num Lock and Scroll Lock 
lights just blink.  I've tried it on a newer dual processor machine but 
also on an old Pentium 100.  I haven't had time to play around with it 
but should be getting back to it.

For the list:  Are there any recommended hardware configurations for 
Pebble?
