This is a really vague description. What router? What platform is your comptuer? What OS is it running? And signal being "weak" (i.e. you're reasonably near the AP and you still get a bad connection) and wanting to *extend* it (i.e. the signal's fine ... but not at the range you want) are 2 different issues There's a lot more detail that'd come in handy to give you really worthwhile advice.


That being said, your question resonated with me as I was just in a similar situation with my new Mac Mini and my Linksys WRT54G router, so I offer this - I was experiencing a weak signal problem with my Mini and the AP. They're only across the room from each other and I still got a crappy connection. The Mini is using 802.11G.

It's not my only computer and the others using 802.11B are fine. I decided to try updating the Linksys router firmware and found I was something like 5 revisions behind! After updating the router's firmware, signal to the Mini is strong and connections from my other computers are fast.

Perhaps this can apply to you.
