Today, 6/3/11, I kayaked the Channel at the Bashakill from Westbrookville to
the Pine Boat Launch. It took me about four and half hours and was quite
rewarding. I wasn't sure how the birds had fared overall since our floods a
couple of weeks ago. Here are the highlights of my trip:

American Bittern - 2
Least Bittern - 2
Common Moorhen - 14
Wood Duck - 42
Great Blue Heron - 16
Sora - 1
Pied-billed Grebe - 1
Black Duck - 2

I failed to hear or see Virginia Rail, but know they are doing well as a result
of our evening survey on 5/31 for "Canada Bird Studies - Marsh Monitoring
Program". It seems that the marsh birds are doing well overall. John Haas
