Date: Friday, 3 June 2011 (2:50p-7:20p)
Location: Manhattan - Swindler Cove Park & Sherman Creek
Reported by: Ben Cacace

This five acre upper Manhattan park is situated along the Harlem River at
the end of Dyckman St. & 10th Avenue across the island from Fort Tryon Park.

I spotted a nest towards the end of the day high up in a tree that resembled
a non-hanging oriole nest. This one was circular & firmly set on a sturdy
branch. Shortly after spotting the nest the male YELLOW WARBLER brought food
to the female sitting on nest. This was the first time I noted the female
over the past 4 visits to the park. Each of these trips had the singing
Yellow Warbler in the exact same location.

"The Second Atlas of Breeding Birds in New York State" has Yellow Warbler as
a confirmed breeder in this atlas block (5852D). Other parks in this block
are Inwood Hill Park and the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx. Was
Swindler Cove Park was censused for the 1st or 2nd Atlas?

Last 3 birds seen were DOWNY WOODPECKER, BALTIMORE ORIOLE & BLACK-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERON.
