In furtherance of Eileen and Bob's notice of a possible Red-necked Stint at
Tiana, on Saturday evening, after an unsuccessful attempt at the Elegant Tern,
I left Tiana and headed to Triton Lane to check out the birds there. I decided
to stop back at Tiana on my way home and among the shorebirds, was what I
believed to be a Red-necked Stint. I had previously viewed the bird at
Cupsogue, and was pretty sure it was the Stint, however, it was about
8:30/8:45ish p.m. and it was just too dark to confirm. If it was the same bird,
then it was at Tiana on at least Saturday and Tuesday evenings. I left Tiana on
Sunday at around 5:30 p.m. for Cupsogue to get the Elegant Tern, but did not
see the Stint that early evening at Tiana. For those of you who may try for the
Stint at Tiana this evening, as a bonus, other birders have reported hearing
the calls of Northern Bobwhite in the brush surrounding the parking lot,
although, I have not been lucky enough to hear them.
