Greetings. This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of November 
16, 2015 Highlights:-----------
RED-THROATED LOONAMERICAN BITTERN GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSECACKLING 
GOOSEEURASIAN WIGEONCINNAMON TEAL/BLUE-WINGED TEAL HYBRIDROUGH-LEGGED 
HAWKSANDHILL CRANEGLAUCOUS GULLFRANKLIN’S GULLBLACK-LEGGED KITTYWAKEPARASITIC 
JAEGERSNOWY OWLNORTHERN SHRIKECAVE SWALLOWLAPLAND LONGSPURYELLOW-HEADED 
BLACKBIRD


Montezuma National Wildlife Complex (MNWC) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex 
(MWC)------------          LESSER and GREATER YELLOWLEGS, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, 
DUNLIN and LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER were the only shorebirds reported this week.   
  11/10: A male and possibly a female EURASIAN WIGEON were seen along the 
Wildlife Drive.     11/12: The hybrid CINNAMON/BLUE-WINGED TEAL was again seen 
at LaRue’s Lagoon along the wildlife Trail.     11/13: A late COMMON GALLINULE 
was found in the Morgon Road marshes.     11/14: 12 CACKLING GEESE and 18 
SANDHILL CRANES were seen from East Road.     11/15: 2 YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS 
were seen and photographed in the corn fields on East Road. A single CAVE 
SWALLOW was seen along the Wildlife Trail. Also seen here were the hybrid Teal 
and a rather late AMERICAN BITTERN.     11/16: 22 SANDHILL CRANES were seen 
from East Road.

Onondaga County------------
     11/10: A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen at Three Rivers WMA.     11/11: 2 
GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were seen on Beaver Lake. An early ROUGH-LEGGED 
HAWK was seen at Three Rivers WMA.     11/14: While small numbers of RUSTY 
BLACKBIRDS continue to be reported a remarkable 92 of them were seen at the 
South Meadow Nature Area in Tully.

Oswego County------------
     11/12: A NORTHERN SHRIKE was reported from Smith Road near Mexico.     
11/13: 1 BLACK-LEGGED KITTTYWAKE and 3 PARASITIC JAEGERS were seen from the 
bluff at Derby Hill.     11/14: 6 FRANKLIN’S GULLS were seen over the course of 
the day at Derby Hill. A GLAUCOUS GULL was also reported.     11/15: A SNOWY 
OWL was seen at Oswego Harbor. It was relocated today.

Madison County-------------
     11/10: A CACKLING GOOSE was found at Woodman Pond.     11/16: 2 GREATER 
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were seen from the overlook at the Great Swamp Conservancy 
north of Canastota.     11/16: A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was found at 
Woodman Pond.

Oneida county------------
     11/14: A CACKLING GOOSE was seen at the Spring Farm Nature Center south of 
clinton.

Cayuga County------------
     11/12: A CAVE SWALLOW was seen at Fair Haven State Park. A LAPLAND 
LONGSPUR was also found.     11/15: A RED-THROATED LOON was spotted on the lake 
at Fair Haven State Park. Another was seen from Sterling Nature Center.
