Greetings: This is the Syracuse Rare Bird Alert for the week of March 21, 2015.
Highlights--------------
NORTHERN GOSHAWKGOLDEN EAGLEOSPREYSANDHILL CRANEGREATER YELLOWLEGSSHORT-EARED 
OWLLONG-EARED OWLNORTHERN SHRIKEWESTERN TANAGER (Extralimital)

Montezuma National Wildlife Complex (MNWC) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex 
(MWC)------------
     3/16: A SHORT-EARED OWL was observed from East Road.     3/17: A FOY 
OSPREY was seen at the Visitor’s Center.     3/20: 2 SANDHILL CRANES and a 
SHORT-EARED OWL were seen from Carncross Road. Also seen here was a FOY GREATER 
YELLOWLEGS.

Derby Hill------------
     2,065 Raptors were recorded this week. On 3/15 the season’s first NORTHERN 
GOSHAWK was seen. On 3/17 3 GOLDEN EAGLES and 4 SANDHILL CRANES were counted.

Oswego County------------
     3/17: A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen on Co. Rt. 64 southwest of Mexico.

Onondaga County------------
     3/14: A LONG-EARED OWL was again seen and this time well photographed at 
Beaver Lake Nature Center. One was seen again on the 16th. but that was the 
last report.     3/16: A NORTHERN SHRIKE continues at Three Rivers WMA near the 
duck blind east of Smokey Hollow Road.     3/19: The region’s first OSPREY was 
seen at the end of the Creekwalk at the south end of Onondaga Lake. A NORTHERN 
SHRIKE was seen on Lamson Road just west of Fenner Road.

Madison county------------
     3/17: A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen near Rt. 20 just east of Cazenovia.

Extralimital------------
     A WESTERN TANAGER is still being seen on the Cornell Campus at a location 
known as Wee Stinky Glen near Day Hall.
