April 05, 2021

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)
------------ 

     4/8: 3 GLOSSY IBISES were seen at Carncross Road.
     4/10: A SHORT-EARED OWL was seen from the Wildlife Drive. Possible the 
same three GLOSSY IBISES were seen in flight and in the phragmities at the 
beginning of the Main Pool. 
     4/11: The 3 GLOSSY IBISES were relocated in the same general location at 
the beginning of the Main Pool. Seen along the Wildlife Drive were an AMERICAN 
PIPIT, a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, a female EURASIAN WIGEON and an AMERICAN 
BITTERN. At Carncross Road a MARSH WREN was found.


Cayuga County
------------

     4/8: 2 SANDHILL CRANES were seen at the Sterling Nature Center.


Onondaga County
------------

     4/5: A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was seen on Purcell Road in Fabius.
     4/6: A HOARY REDPOLL was seen on Harrington Road in Syracuse. A VIRGINIA 
RAIL was seen on Ladd Road near Oneida Shores Park.
     4/7: A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was seen from Rt. 81 north of Cicero.
     4/9: An apparent ANHINGA, very rare for our area, was seen from Rt. 81 
near Hancock Airport. 


Derby Hill Bird Observatory
------------

      The total count of Hawks this week at Derby was 11,557. Again the 
majority were Turkey Vultures. On 4/8 the first BROAD-WINGED HAWK was seen. 4 
GOLDEN EAGLES were counted. Other highlights were 8 COMMON REDPOLLS and 2 
EVENING GROSBEAKS.


Oswego County
------------

     4/8: an adult male EURASIAN WIGEON was again seen at the Rt. 6 wetland 
north of Rt. 3 in Volney.
     4/10: An early COMMON GALLINULE was seen at Three Mile Bay on Oneida Lake. 
2 PINE SISKINS were seen onStone Hill Road south of Willianstown.


Madison County
------------

     4/6: A SNOWY OWL was seen on Vrolyk Road in the Town of Eaton.
     4/7: A RED-THROATED LOON was seen at Woodman Pond north of Hamilton.
     4/8: A SANDHILL CRANE was see at the Madison Street Impoundment north of 
Hamilton. It was seen again today.
     4/10: A BOHEMIAN WAXWING was seen the Madison Street Impoundment.


Oneida County
------------

     4/5: A PINE SISKIN was seen on Brown Tract Road near Remson.
     4/9: 2 EVENING GROSBEAKS and a HOARY REDPOLL were seen on Brown Tract 
Road.A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was seen on Maple Flats Road north of cleveland.
     4/11: A VIRGINIA RAIL was seen on Dwyer Road north of Verona.


Herkimer County
------------

     4/7: A COMMON REDPOLL was see at Salisbury Corners.
