A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was seen in the fields of Armitage Road. Further down Armitage into the wooded area a PROTHONOTARY WARBLER was sighted. An ORCHARD ORIOLE was seen on Towpath Road off of East Road. 5/9: A LEAST BITTERN was seen on the Wildlife Drive. 2 PRAIRIE WARBLERS were seen at the Audubon Center on Rt. 89. Onondaga County ------------ EVENING GROSBEAKS continue in various locations. 5/4: A SWAINSON’S THRUSH was seen on the Creek Walk north of Hiawatha Boulevard in Syracuse. 5/5: A RED-NECKED GREBE was seen through the 9th. from Lakeview Point on the West Shore Trail of Onondaga Lake. 2 SEMI-PALMATED PLOVERS were seen at a wet area on Solar Street in Syracuse. 5/6: BLACK TERNS were seen from the West Shore Trail on Onondaga Lake and at the north end of Skaneateles Lake. 5/7: A SWAINSON’S THRUSH was seen in the Le Moyne College Woods. 5/8: GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLERS were seen at Hamlin Marsh off of Wetzel Road in Liverpool, Baltimore Woods Nature Center in Marcellus and Oneida Shores County Park in Brewerton. 5/9: A LAWRENCES WARBLER ( a hybrid of Blue-wing and Golden-wing Warblers) was seen on Bennetts Corners Road south of Memphis. A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was seen at Cedar Bay Park in Fayetteville. A LINCOLN’S SPARROW was seen in the Dewitt Marsh south of Bridge Street. 5/10: A LINCOLN’S SPARROW was seen on Westmoreland Street in Syracuse. Cayuga County ------------ 5/7: A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was see at Fair Haven State Park. 5/8: An ICELAND GULL was seen at Fair Haven State Park.A LINCOLN’S SPARROW was found at Sterling Nature Center. 5/9: A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was sen at Fair Haven State Park. Derby Hill Bird Observatory -------------- 3,534 Hawks were counted at Derby this week most coming 0n 5/3 and 5/4. Once again BROAD-WINGED HAWKS made up a majority of the birds. Only 2 GOLDEN EAGLES were counted. Another highlight was 193 EVENING GROSBEAKS. Oswego County ------------ EVENING GROSBEAKS continue this week in good numbers. Most were seen in Willianstown, Sandy Pond and Hastings. 5/4: A WHIP-POOR-WILL was seen at the corner of Co. Rt. 104 and Fred Haynes Blvd. in Oswego. 5/6: A HUDSONIAN GODWIT made a brief stop at Biddlecum Pond north of Phoenix. 5/8: A PRAIRIE WARBLER was seen near County Rt. 1 in Oswego. 3 SURF SCOTERS were seen from Phillips Point on Oneida Lake. An ICELAND GULL and a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER were seen at Sunset Bay park in Volney on Lake Ontario. 5/9: A RED-NECKED GREBE was seen on Oneida Lake from Constantia. 5/10: A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL and a LAUGHING GULL were both seen at the outlet of Sandy Pond on Lake Ontario. Madison County ------------ EVENING GROSBEAKS continue at locations on Eden Hollow Road and Eaton Reservoir. 5/5: A RED-NECKED GREBE was seen at Woodman Pond north of Hamilton. 5/8: A LINCOLN’S SPARROW was seen at Helen McNitt State Park on Cazenovia Lake. Up to 150 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were seen on Woodman Pond north of Hamilton. 5/9: At least 18 RED CROSSBILLS were seen at Morrow Mountain State Forest south of Erieville. Oneida County ----------- EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen in Whitesboro, Waterville and at the Verona Beach Wooded area. 5/7: A GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER was seen on Sidecut Road east of Verona Beach. 5/9: 5 SORA were seen on the Dwyer Road Marsh in Verona. 2 RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS continue at Verona Beach State park. An UPLAND SANDPIPER was seen on North Gage Road south of Poland. A PHILADELPHIA VIREP and a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW were seen on Perimeter Road on the old Rome Air Base. Herkimer County ------------ EVENING GROSBEAKS continue at a feeder in Dolgeville and at a feeder in Salisbury Center. 5/5: An ORCHARD ORIOLE was see at the corner of Albany Road and Soncody Road south of West Winfield. 5/6: A GREAT EGRET was seen on Weaver lake east of Richfield Springs.
