This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of March 07, 2022 Highlights: ----------- TUNDRA BEAN GOOSE GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE CACKLING GOOSE EURASIAN WIGEON GOLDEN EAGLE LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL ICELAND GULL GLAUCOUS GULL SHORT-EARED OWL SNOWY OWL HERMIT THRUSH COMMON REDPOLL PINE SISKIN RED CROSSBILL Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC) ------------ A TUNDRA BEAN GOOSE, originally found at Seneca Lake State Park on 3/9 and 3/10 moved to the Mucklands on Rt. 31 west of the Seneca River on 3/10. It was found again on 3/13 and once more today. It is with an enormous group of SNOW GEESE making it difficult to pick out. 3/10: A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE and an EURASIAN WIGEON were found at the Mucklands. 3/11: A GOLDEN EAGLE was seen at the Mucklands. 3/13: An EURASIAN WIGEON was seen at the Mucklands and from VanDyne Spoor Road. A SHORT-EARED OWL was seen at the Mucklands. Cayuga County ------------ 3/11: A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL and a CACKLING GOOSE were seen from Maiden Lane north of Port Byron. Derby Hill Bird Observatory ------------ 319 Raptors were counted at Derby this first Official week of counting. GOLDEN EAGLES were seen on 3/10 and 3/11. A CACKLING GOOSE was seen on 3/11. Oswego County ------------ 3/9: A CACKLING GOOSE was seen on the Oswego River in Phoenix. 3/11: 4 COMMON REDPOLLS were seen in Minetto. 3/12: An EASTERN TOWHEE was seen in Pennelville. 3/13: A CACKLING GOOSE was seen at Selkirk Shores on Lake Ontario. Onondaga County ------------ 3/9: A CACKLING GOOSE and a HERMIT THRUSH were seen at Beaver Lake Nature Center. 3/10: A GOLDEN EAGLE was seen from Munro Road in Camillus. A SNOWY OWL was seen at Hancock Airport. 3/12: An ICELAND GULL was seen from the Marshy Spits on the west side of Onondaga Lake. 3/13: A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at the Marshy Spits. Madison County ------------ 3/8: A CACKLING GOOSE was seen on Ditchbank Road north of Canastota. 3/11: A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at the Madison County Landfill south of Canastota. 3/12: A GLAUCOUS GULL was seen on Hardwood Island Road north of Canastota. 3/13: An ICELAND GULL was seen on Ditchbank Road. 3/14: 4 PINE SISKINS were seen on Eden Hollow Road east of Erieville. Oneida County ------------ 3/9: A COMMON REDPOLL was seen in Clinton. 3/12: A PINE SISKIN was seen in Forestport.
