Without digging into the code, usually something has changed, and knowing what can help. This kind of thing you have, can happen when the server times out, there is a default limit on how much time the server will allocate to processing your request. So a a lot depends on whether you run your own server or it is hosted. Also your membership may have grown a lot recently, and/or you are sending an attachment or larger content including images. Also it depends what mail program you are using to send from. You may be using localhost's smtp or external one/s. Sometimes these also have limits imposed on them as an anti-spamming measure. After that is is possible that your server is being loaded - if you are on a shared scheme they may have you sharing bandwith with others, there may be a cap on your use, etc. etc. What do the hosting people say?
