I'm running windows vista on my laptop and am not interested in changing at present.
I want to spend my time focusing on Linux as a server, php and mysql. I build web applications and application based web sites - specifically Joomla at present. [1] I'm interested in better tools to code php faster. Xdebug has been recommended. I've had a go at installing it on my Clark Connect and Debian boxes but crashed in a screaming heap. What server env are people running Xdebug on? What client side tools should I be using. Some people have suggested eclipse. If I was to build a new machine as a dev server, what should I use? My current linux background is mainly Clark Connect 3.2, Debian Sarge, Mandrake/Mandriva and some Redhat 9. (So suggesting Gentoo, a source based OS may not be helpful). I don't care about security or best practice. I care about getting something functional so I can learn more about the tools. I also don't have much hardware power to throw at this, so recommending the latest Ubuntu distro with all it's power hungry features is also not helpful. Thanks in advance for any input.
