I stopped using multi IEs some time back because it doesn't actually render correctly, as you have discovered yourself. I personally have several VMWare Virtual Machines running Windows XP with a different version of Internet Explorer running in each. That's pretty much all I have installed in each and they have minimal services running so they boot up in the VM pretty quickly.
