It's not only about bandwidth, but also what features the host can provide and the speed. For example, I have a client with a Django site, because I couldn't find a suitable NZ host that could offer Python hosting I went with a US host.
I actually went with Webfaction who are one of the most highly recommended shared hosts for Django within the Django community. Although the site works perfectly fine on Webfaction and gives me way more bandwidth than I would ever require, I get speeds that are almost as slow as dialup. Images load terribly slow, and SSH logins are painfully slow.
