Subject: [phpug] [OT] Feedback on another new site

  Hi,

coincidentally, we were able to launch a new site for one of clients after 6
months of development.

http://www.seleconlight.com is the new Internet home of Selecon New Zealand,
a technology leader in the field of theatre lighting that designs, manufactures
and exports lighting systems to the world. Selecon has significant market share
in the US, Germany, UK and Russia and prides itself on innovation.

This site is a good showcase of what is possible with the Joomla Content
Management System that this site is based on. The major customisations we have
used in the project are:
  - E-Commerce module with > 6000 products based on Virtuemart (checkout
process pending) and a custom written accessories management section based on
extjs.
  - Custom tagging backend and frontend navigation modules
  - Translated into 5 foreign languages, including American English with
Joomfish
  - Country targeted content and products with a new custom written component
  - Custom written product support library component bringing support
documentation and products together.

While we had to write a long list of modules to make the layouts work well in
Joomla, the new 1.5 framework has definitely made most of the development much
easier and I would never go back to Joomla 1.0.x. It has also allowed us to
customise the backend significantly without having to hack the Joomla
installation, allowing for dead simple security upgrades.

The graphic design and html production was done by www.altgroup.net, we were
solely responsible for the backend and bringing the project together. Thanks
also to Jeremy Bruce and Berend de Boer from this list who have build a large
part of this project.

While the site is live, we have a significant part of the journey in front of
us. There's still a checkout process, search engine friendly features and many
more small things to complete.

Any feedback or questions are very welcome, either on this list or directly
by email.

  Cheers,

  Jochen
