Thanks for the feedback. I'm not surprised as well.

I've currently got 2 worthwhile applications and these are enough to
fill the role. I have actually advertised a completely different role
in October and had only 14 applications of which 3 were worthwhile. I
have nevertheless filled that role as well and that person is very
successfully working with us.

Generally, I have received a lot of advice to open up the job
description and then wade through lots of CVs. I don't like that
approach as it requires me to not ask for what I actually want.

The main reason why I sent this notice to the group is that I haven't
received any suitable response out of this mailing list of > 600
people, all applications have come through Seek. Yet, the last time I
allowed a recruiter to send me a CV (October), they effectively sent
me names that I have seen on this list regularly, effectively throwing
away 20% of the contractors turnover.

I do agree with you, but now I do need a jack of all trades. I'm a
jack of all trades as well, but obviously successful enough to hire
other people. Note also, that you need no artistic background
whatsoever, I'm looking for a 'likeable right brainer with a go-getter
attitude'.

To make this thread more helpful, I also recommend for all people that
hire contractors to read this:
http://www.sitepoint.com/article/working-contractors-made/

Especially thinking about the job ad, thinking about what the
contractor will get out of this and the test project are great ideas
that I have implemented out of this.

Hope this helps,

Jochen
