OK. I've gone through most of the setup of Symfony 1.4.3 on Windows XP Pro, IIS 5.1, MSSQL 2008 Express. My eyes are bleeding, and I think I'm seeing things I shouldn't be.

Made a project, made an app, changed document root to /web/ directory. Loaded localhost and I get the usual "congratulations" page, with no images and no styling. I can see why. They are linked using the path /sf/ that doesn't exist inside "web". The obvious fix is an alias in the Virtual Server definition. If only IIS had Virtual Server definitions!

I've spent more time online than doing anything with Symfony now, and looking at the forums, most successfull solutions have been to install Apache and dump IIS. This may yet be an option - the only solid requirement so far is MSSQL. But if not, we may need to look at something a little looser, like ZF (unfortunately).

Another issue seems to be the ISAPI rewrite module, but I don't think I've run into that problem directly (yet). I've just seen sporadic comments on the forums.

I was just interested to hear if any of you lot have tried or heard of successful Symfony setups in an Windows/IIS/MSSQL environment. It may help a bit in selling Apache and save a bit of time.

Regards
Aaron Cooper

Hi Aaron,

Quick question guys:

How's Symfony on PHP 5.3?

Fine - I run Symfony on PHP 5.3 on my workstation with no issues.

Kind regards,
James McGlinn
