I just ordered myself a Nexus One, should arrive tomorrow. After doing a
stack of reading and weighing up all the pros and cons of both platforms
(both platforms have plenty of each), I decided I just couldn't be
bothered with Apple's proprietary attitude towards everything and that
was what swayed me. That, and the Android SDK.
Iphone apps seem to be leagues ahead of Android apps though - it's been
around longer, and more apps made by professional developers rather than
enthusiasts. There is very little in the Android market that has me
itching for my card number at the moment.
The nexus seemed to be the best available Android option (at least for
my needs). There are plenty of things that suck about the Nexus like the
lack of internal storage for apps, no skype / Civilization Revolution /
[name of other quality apps that Iphone has], and the lack of
front-facing camera. I'm also told on good authority the support for HTC
devices is a bit average in NZ. But instead you get a removable battery
and SD card, a standard micro-USB cable for charging/connecting,
pinch-to-zoom (which other androids dont have), and you don't have to
deal with the traumatic experience that is Itunes. The Android SDK seems
to be powerful, well documented, and works on Windows. I'm told the
voice input features of the Nexus are badass as well, but I'll need to
do my own testing on this.
That was my take on it - I'd love to wait a year for Android apps to
catch up, but I needed a new phone now.

I think a new hardware version is a big ask. But it's the only thing
keeping fringe buyers from signing up. Still, it might explain why
Vodafone NZ obviously got the crumbs in terms of supply.
Lenz, yeah I played with one a first mobile yesterday. Other than this
antenna talk, it's a rather outstanding device.

I haven't been able to test it myself yet, but a friend of mine
mentioned to me that he is experiencing the "Death Grip" with the
iPhone 4 he picked up on Friday.
Apple stop giving out free bumpers in September, so I am curious
if that means they're going to announce a new model with a "fix" -
that being said, I'm not waiting around for it. I'm leaning
towards Android now more than ever.

I'm well aware of the antenna issue, but just wondering what
