I remember this exact same thing happening when IE7 was released. They
were asking developers for feedback and ideas on what should go into
IE7. Then when they got the feedback they asked for, MS developers
started having a cry about how hard it was and how we should be glad
that we can use transparent pngs etc. At some point, IIRC, they closed
off every user-submitted ticket in their bugtracker and started fresh,
asking people to resubmit tickets that still needed doing (ie most of
them). Nice.
And I remember that feeling of wanting to smack people who discovered
tabbed browsing for the first time in IE7 and were going on about how
cool IE7 was because of it.
If people's reviews of MS browsers are cynical, it's probably because MS
have such a terrible track record at such things.
Harvey.

I agree, I have been complaining trying to get microsoft to include
the html5 file api in IE9. This api rocks, and removes the need to use
flash to do anything more than select one file and upload it.
For example:

http://hacks.mozilla.org/2009/12/w3c-fileapi-in-firefox-3-6/
Firefox already had this working 3 months after the standard was
released last year, and chrome/safari have also implemented it.
As this won't be in IE9, it will be another 3ish years before IE10 is
out, so cross browser support of this api is more or less dead in the
foreseeable future.
The bug report is here (although you need to be logged into microsoft
connect to see it):

The reply from microsoft is;
"Thank you for your feedback. We will take your feedback into
consideration in our ongoing efforts to improve Internet Explorer"
Sounds like marketing talk for were not doing it, and were not
discussing it.

I have to say I can't totally trust such a cynical commentary on a beta
release, but the examples provided are worth digging deeper on as the launch
progresses. ( I haven't been able to dig up any similar complaints this
morning)
To be honest, there isn't much Microsoft could do for me to stop instantly
trying to convert clients to FF or Chrome. Not that slow conversion will
ever save us from this sort of problem as far as development goes.
