Hey Guys. I'm helping organize the upcoming WordCamp NZ conference and its coming up real fast. We'd love to see you php gurus there - topics include "why my clients hate their site - because its drupal not wordpress!", "securing wordpress", "wordpress vs groupon.com", "making your wordpress site run faster" and other interesting topics. Also our very own Richard MacManus from Read Write Web is one of our panelists which we think is testament to the types of people interested in the WordPress world.
I was just joking about the first topic - but I would encourage all Drupal loyalists to come along and see what we're up to in the WordPress camp. WordPress has probably come a long way since you last looked, Custom Post Types and Custom Taxonomies have helped make it a very powerful tool for developers, if not just as powerful as Drupal... with an interface that won't scare your clients away ;) The URL to our event is: www.wordcamp.org.nz All jest aside it'd be great to do some networking, I know that there will be people from industry there with an eye to hire the odd guru too. So if you're looking for some work then that might be another good reason to come along!!
