I'd echo Dave's thoughts there. If Drupal seems "slow" then there's a good
chance you were testing it on commodity / mass hosting - not really the
environment it's aimed at.

No matter what system you choose, there will be an enormous amount you can
do to tune any out-of-the-box CMS to get the best performance out of it.
