hostgator was fine, until our server hdd started having hdd errors. pointing it out in logs, did nothing. Additionally, hostgator does not support portable ips. hostgator is a support layer on top of old theplanet hardware, theplanet was brought by softlayer, and old hardware is slowly being phased out. I strongly encourage softlayer + your own inhouse/contracted support if your doing something off the beaten track. softlayer supports portable ips.
