Dear Doug,
Thanks for your consideration. It seems like a small thing, but a
metre of paved shoulder could save many cyclist and trucker lives.
It'd be nice to have a big project to change all our highways, but
I'd be happy if the shoulders were added just whenever the road needs
work.
Is it the policy of the Ministry of Transport to consider paved
shoulders whenever they do work? I note they are doing it on 37, 41,
401, 402 and the QEW. I think they're mainly considering the trucks,
rather than the cyclists, since bicycles aren't allowed on 401, 402,
or the QEW. (See

Roads friendly to cylists are a big draw for tourists. Illinois has a
series of 6 cyling maps of their state.
