I read in an old version of Cycling Plus that Bruce Burford planned to
break the roller record by being hoisted in a harness to reduce the
friction on the rollers to the bare minimum (and presumably to steady
rider and bike as Bob has said is needed). Don't know if he ever did
it. He was run down and killed while riding his bike on one of Britain's A
roads last year.
