"In the heat of the night" What a change in weather from last weeks rain,
cold and wind.

Things got off to a great start by "Sir James" giving a lecture and
demonstration on how to change a rear wheel tire. I thought my rear tire
took
a little extra air than normal to pump up with my Blackburn Pro foot pump at
home prior to the ride. Things seemed a little loose on the way to Billings
Bridge so I checked out the bike and found a soft tire on the rear. This
puncture (very slow leak) must have happened Sunday while I merrily cycled
the 98 km Reliability Ride, all by my lonesome. I should have known better
than to arrive by car. This gives you last minute choices as to what to wear
but you should arrive early so that you can go on a short warm-up ride. I
did not and managed to cramp both thighs at the very start of the ride. Next
time I will know better. I did manage to catch the group at Russell as they
were leaving and again at the right turn onto 400 which they missed., but
that was the last I saw of them. I just plain enjoyed riding West into the
wind at a slow 20 km's a hour. In fact I enjoyed it so much that I was hard
pressed, to change to a higher speed when I turned right onto Nixson Road
and Osgoode. Hopefully I will have learn for this ride and should do better
in the fall.

After giving a demonstration on changing tubes you would think that I would
not be asked to do it all over again on the same ride? However, "Sir James
would never leave a lady in distress so on the Rockcliffe Parkway I did a
repeat show. and suggested that with two demonstrations, all the cyclist
should be able to fix their own.

!2 cyclist all OBC members with a group of about four who were new to me and
OBC. did a short tour 43 km's .
>From Billings Bridge we took the bicycle path to Ottawa City Hall then the
Rockcliffe Parkway to Blackburn Hamlet. A short stop and West on Innes Road
to Anderson Road, Ridge Road, Walkley Road, Halifax and Kilborn back to
Billing Bridge. By going this way we had a good push in the open going and
the wind out of the West was not noticed much returning as we had woods and
houses to break the wind on the return.

Cheers "sir James"
PS Off to the Tour of Quinte this weekend.
