This is a little outside my terms of reference, but I'll dig in....
The water is supplied by one of our sponsors - Culligan Water, by
coincidence. But the transportation of it is our responsibility, and it's a
real challenge. There's a lot of it, it's heavy, we rent a van to move it, we
have to store it overnight, etc. And Perth Road Village is a long way away.

Oh - and in fact we provide the porta-potties, so he'd better not be
charging....

My son rode Rideau Lakes three times, first time just before he turned 16.
He had also been riding on Club rides. But to be sure, there are very few
teenagers active in the Club. I don't know what is the chicken and what is
the egg here, but leaving aside whether or not they might actually be
interested in Club riding, I would guess that the average teenager has
never even ridden a road bike today.

Ten years ago one could buy at least some kind of road bike at C.Tire - not
now. You could move up from that to a Cr-Mo Norco/Fiori, index shifting, etc,
for well under $500. There was a significant market in used road bikes at $200
or so. All of them adequate for a starting-out rider. Today there is
nothing like that on the market - I think the only way to get a decent
quality affordable used road bike is to visit the Glebe garage sale!

Some kids are riding lightweight (and rather expensive) mountain bikes.
But most are riding cheap oversize tube leviathons that probably weigh
more than 40 lb. It's not likely that they'd see anything in cycling to
attract them. And of course they've all been indoctrinated that cycling is
so dangerous....
