The members of Rick Moll's group, doing the ride to Metcalfe yesterday, may want to know that, according to Tom Stratton, the Touring Director, Brian Schlachta was scheduled for surgery to repair a broken scapula. Tom was not aware of any other injuries sustained by Brian. I am sure all the members of our group will join me in wishing Brian a speedy recovery.
For the information of others, Brian was struck by an on-coming vehicle while riding east on county road 14, or Main Street, a couple of kilometers outside of Osgoode. The accident happened at the back of our pack, just behind me. Consequently, I did not witness the accident and cannot comment on how it happened.
If I may state my own opinion, however - and an obvious lesson from this accident - Brian would have undoubtably suffered a serious, if not fatal, head injury had he not been wearing a helmet. His helmet was cracked in half!
