Had 19 cyclist last nights tour, (2 new non-members). The long day and good weather made me think big. I was wondering if we could make it to Masson, cross in the ferry and return from Cumberland before dark (Innes Road). The OBC map that I have does not give distance. I guessed it would be about 35 Km's on the Quebec side but it was closer to 45 Km,s Do the tour ended up being around 72 Km's back to Billings. Some did get back before dark, but I ended up staying with four slower riders after the ferry. The combination of 6 flats (not mine) and a extended stop at the ferry for ice-cream and food including hamburgers I had a single scoop cone) caused the slower group to return quite late. At Tenth Line and Innes Road I lost two of the four in the group and went back to find they had a flat. Repaired flat, however the other two did not wait, I think mainly because you were eaten alive when stopped. We just got started again and said rider had another flat, even though we checked the tire. Man the bugs were feasting during that change. The two who rode on, Allan and a non member were the only ones that I was a little worried about. However Allan had good lights. In fact all groups had good lights. I have had Tuesday rides since the first of April and it seems that all the flats were saved for this night. Maybe Rod Plunkett is warming his skills up for the End of Summer Century and plans to cast a spell on Sir James. Will have to save Masson for a faster Tuesday night ride. However all returned safe and other than being eaten alive by bug while fixing the last two flats all went well. In fact I found it nice riding in the dark as we had a nice cool breeze by then.
