Seven cyclist braved the very hot and humid conditions to ride a short tour
to Manotick, using River and Limebank Rd. going, Bowesville, Alert Rd, and
the Airport Parkway returning.

It rained as I made my way to Billings Bridge, which did not last more than
a few moments. However it was enough to cause Mike Rapsey a little road rash
as his bike slid out from under him. on his trip to Billings.

We had one non member Greg Griffith and one new OBC member. Because the
group was so small I decided that we should all go together. This did not
work out to well as I found out at Hunt Club and River Road that we had lost
Greg and he was out of sight. The riders at the back of the pack informed me
that he had requested that they not wait for him if he fell behind. I had
briefed both riders to pass information forward if the pace was to fast and
I would slow the pack down. I did not seem fair that a non member paid $3.00
to go a block or two with the group.

The main reason I did not split the group is that none of the cyclist that I
would normally task with the job of fast tour leader were present. I think
if this happens again I will lead from the back of the pack and in doing so
force the faster cyclist to slow down for the slower ones, or ride off on
their own.

Not to be outdone by Mike "Sir James" took as controlled sprawl on River Rd
at Limebank.
James had switched to the back of the pack to keep a better eye on the new
OBC member and was trying to make eye contact with a motorist in a long line
of car in order to make the left hand turn onto Limebank. James did not look
back to the cyclist in front of him in time as this cyclist braked without
warning and James touched wheels. Other than a bit of road rash that looked
worse than it was and a big dent in Sir James's pride he was non the
worse for wear and was able to continue the tour.

As Manotick is not normally a destination for a Tuesday Tour I was quite
surprised to find that the store in the shopping centre were I planned to
stop was no more or at the very least was in the process of being rebuilt,
so we all settled for the Independent Grocery Store for cold drinks and
bananas.

The return trip was uneventful other than on the Parkway I stayed back with
our new member who was finding the heat a little much with his heavy bike.

Cheers, "Sir James"
