Yes, you are right, there are a lot of jerk cyclists out there; just like a lot of jerk motorists - too many and it is probably because there is no enforcement. However, I don't hear him painting all motorists with the same brush. As you have pointed out, there are different groups of cyclists. I simply don't agree with his sweeping generalizations, nor to I agree that most cyclists do not behave decently. If they did not, I would suggest we would be hearing about a lot more bike accidents and probably more fatalities or injuries. Most bike accidents are the fault of the cyclist. I would suggest that cyclists behaving "decently" are hardly even noticed by motorists, hence the perception that all cyclists are "bad" because of a few who insist on riding on sidewalks; which, everyone knows is where they should not be. The "noodlers" are exactly the group Mr Green was referring to and I would have a hard time believing that they represent the majority of cyclists. Finally, I don't accept that the onus is on me to prove him wrong since he is the one making the flippant claims - ie - I wear a bike helmet, therefore I am an idiot? Avery might agree with that statement but for entirely different reasons....sorry to drag you into this Avery (teehee).

How many cyclists out there are actuallyfollowing the rules of the road and behaving decently?  Not many.  We're usedto riding with our OBC friends and on club rides and loops in the Gats when forthe most part most cyclists are either incompetant commuters or bike path andsidewalk noodlers that are two eggs short of a dozen. Prove him wrong, or he'll nail you on this.
