I have no concern with any person expressing their support for any candidate. However, Kevin's comments went further than that. He implicated Manny as being associated with others that wish to take over the group, and do away with long established events. The president does not have a veto. Kevin ventures close to libel, for which I believe an apology is owed.
Support for one candidate can be all the positive characteristics, as the supporter sees it, in the candidate. The supporter might even compare one to another - keeping close to facts - that's all that should be required. In our country's politics, we see smear campaigns regularly, and maybe they have become too commonplace for us to recognize what would be considered a fair and clean campaign. Though "fair and clean" may be a rather high ideal, in a volunteer-run organisation, the candidates are not paid to tolerate uncalled-for insults or innuendo. It shouldn't have to be a regular part of volunteering (though I am not naive enough to think it isn't a part of life). Having given major amounts of my time to volunteer in other organisations, it is sometimes a thankless job, so we do it for the pleasures it does bring. Both Manny and Avery have done good work and given of their own time and skills to a great club. I wish them both good luck.
