For what it's worth, I used to know a teenage guy who wore shorts year-round. He was very involved with running (on his high-school track team), so I always figured it was some sort of runners' quirk. Who knows. Of course, this was in Philadelphia, where the winter climate is somewhat gentler than more northern climes...
