Hi,

I'm sending this message out to the OBC mailing list to get a sense of the
level of interest in doing some Ottawa area vintage bicycle rides. Currently
I'm envisioning something like a monthly gathering at as yet undetermined
locations, with a vintage bicycle ride (probably relatively short and
social) perhaps followed by some conversation, maybe a show and tell now and
again, and perhaps a little car trunk parts swapping. Suggestions sought and
appreciated.

Now the definition used by many for 'vintage' would be any bike from about
1985 and earlier, that is, before the introduction of index shifting. Now
this is a pretty loose definition of 'classic' or 'vintage' and really the
intention is not to exclude those that might want to join in on these rides
because they might have aero brake levers or index shifting (or STI :-0 ),
but to encourage riders to shine up an bring out their older steeds that are
perhaps no longer being ridden as often as they used to be.

The intent is that the ride might also be a bicycle appreciation event where
folks who not only like to ride but who also like bikes can perhaps show off
the bikes that might spend too much time hanging on the wall (am I the only
one who hangs bikes on the wall like art?). :-)

If you have an interest in participating, please send me an email and let me
know. Please share this message with anyone you think might like to be
involved as well. It is not intended to be an OBC only event and all would
be welcome. I would also like to hear any suggestions or comments regarding
possible routes, times, dates, etc.

All the best,
