Having attended the NCC presentation last evening regarding the Ottawa River pathways (Champlain Bridge to New Orchard St), here is a synopsis of the major proposals. - The north side pathway will be upgraded to a "Recreational Pathway" of 3 meters width, and this will be the main pathway through the region. Parts of the current 2 meter north side path will be left "as is", being by-passed by sections of the new 3 meter pathway. The predominant new section will be from Champlain Bridge to slightly west of Westboro beach. - The road crossing at Churchill Ave. connecting the south side and current north side paths will be eliminated. - The south side 2 meter pathway will be extended from the foot of Churchill Ave. to Island Park Drive. - The access tunnel between north and south at Westboro beach will be enhanced. - The 2 meter south side pathway will remain "as is", but commuters/roller bladers/etc. will be encouraged to access the new "Rec. Path." at the New Orchard and Westboro beach tunnels and/or the Island Park traffic lights. ...... Paul L.
