The intent is to ensure "accidental" replies (which can sometimes embarrass the sender) don't get forwarded to everyone. This also directs replies for "can somebody tell me..." to the original requester, rather than to the list. It really isn't that hard to change the addressee to the mailing list (even in LookOut, just click on the "To" and type in [EMAIL PROTECTED]). Further, it isn't that hard to delete all of the useless stuff in replies (even in LookOut, though it is rather baroque in this respect).I completely agree with this. But with both Netscape and Outlook,
selecting "Reply" will send the reply to the poster, not to the mailing
list. My fix is to select "Reply all", then delete the original poster,
and any other cc's, from the list. I belong to another mailing list
which does in fact interpret "Reply" as reply to the list - is this a
list setting that can be changed?
Alas, even if the list were configured to reply-to-list, I'm sure people would still hit the reply-to-all anyway. (Procmail nukes the duplicates for me anyway... :-) )
Note: topica will be implementing shortly a feature to drop all attachments and HTMLl dreck, so that will cut the size of messages down tremendously for the benefit to those with glacial internet connections (who's dat Paul?). It will also prevent those who use mailers which are virus prone (Look out!) from worrying about getting or spreading virii via the mailing list.
