Of special interest to time trialers: I started commuting last week, my route taking me along the Eastern/Rockcliffe Parkway. Actually, due to the linking bicycle path still being snow-covered, I have only been going home along the parkway (eastward). In places, travelling east, the shoulder is in a dreadful state -- bumpy, lumpy, rutty, broken, and generally in an extremely bad state. To think that next month some of us will be time trialing along there! We will be forced to, either ride the complete route on the road to avoid the dangers on the shoulder, or be swerving onto the road to avoid the dangers on the shoulder. I know that some riders prefer to ride on the road, but there are some of us who used to feel safer in our own space so as not to compete with the traffic. One thing for sure, everyone will have to ride with "heads up" and be extremely alert or I fear there may be a calamity! I understand the OBC is paying the NCC for use of the parkway for our time trial series. I would have thought that the NCC would make more of an effort in providing us with a safe route if they expect us to pay them for using it! Perhaps we should withhold our funds!
