I CAN be done, but your tube may squirm in the rim, and a broken valve is
unpatchable. A broken valve on your spare is thus disasterous.

You can buy plastic sleeve adapters/grommets for your presta valves so they
sit in the center of the schrader holes. Pecco's boys once old me all MAVIC
MTB rims built for tubes will be drilled schrader going forward. No sense
producing two products which differ only in the holes.

You can also buy very nice BRASS adapters for the same purpose. More
expensive, heavier, but much harder to "forget", and they will last forever.
You only have to buy two. I've broken the plastic ones, I have no idea how,
perhaps they were squirming and the hole's edge cut through the grommet.
