To those OBC friends who like to follow my progress in the 2,992-mile Race Across
AMerica (RAAM):

This year, 18 solo riders (17 male, 1 female), 1 mixed tandem, four 2-person relay
teams and six 4-person relay teams will participate in the 20th Anniversary RAAM by
riding from Portland, OR to Pensacola, FL. The original 1982 race was called Great
American Bike Race and the race was renamed to Race Across America in 1983. The field
(listed in http://www.raceacrossamerica.org/riders2002a.htm) features international
riders from Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Italy, Brazil, Slovenia, Canada,
Switzerland, Australia and Great Britain. The age of the riders ranges from 19 to 70
years old. The solo race is really an individual time trial since no drafting is
allowed in the RAAM solo division.

You will be able to follow the progress of all riders in the solo, 2-person and
4-person divisions from June 16 (Father's Day) to June 28 either by:

1) Checking the race update on the RAAM official web site
(http://www.raceacrossamerica.org/2002riders/raam2002.htm).

2) Subscribing to the ultracycling mailing list at Topica (http://www.topica.com) for
two weeks and then unsubscribe afterward.

More info are available on the official RAAM web site
(http://www.raceacrossamerica.org). A short article on the Canadians that have ridden
RAAM is available on my web site (http://www.cyberus.ca/~mlau). I like to thank Bob
Hicks and Bob Simpson in providing the info and the bios of Georges Hlaouet (a
Canadian who participated in RAAM '86).

Thank you for your support and encourgement in the past 14 years.

- Michael Lau

RAAM Rider # 42
