City of Ottawa Looking for Leaders of the Cycling Pack

The City of Ottawa is now accepting nominations for the fourth annual
Bruce Timmermans Cycling Awards, to recognize leading organizations and
exemplary individuals who show a strong commitment to cycling.
Nominations close August 31, 2002.

Businesses, associations or governments who have encouraged their
employees and customers to cycle are eligible for the award for
organizations. A separate honour is given to one local citizen who has
been a role model for cycling in the community.

"The City of Ottawa is very proud of our community's dedication to
cycling," says Madeleine Meilleur, Chair of the City's Transportation
and Transit Committee. "The Bruce Timmermans Awards allow us to thank
individuals and organizations for promoting the bicycle as a clean,
safe and efficient way of getting around town."

The awards program, originally known as the Ottawa Urban Cycling
Awards, were named after Bruce Timmermans in 1999. Timmermans, a well-
known and highly respected member of the cycling community, was an
active member of the Ottawa Bicycle Club and a founder of Citizens for
Safe Cycling. He had a reputation for working tirelessly to encourage
more people to cycle and cycle safely, well into his retirement years.

Previous recipients of the organization award include Export
Development Corporation, Nortel Networks and Canada Post Corporation.
A complete list of winners is published on the City of Ottawa's web
site.

Nomination forms are available at City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West,
