Hi all:

Again trouble in contacting topica... so, I added some extra
calculations/ideas to my note...

The results of tonights TT are up and accessible from
http://www3.sympatico.ca/celia.mcinnis/tt/2002/index.html .

First place overall went to Aaron Fillion with 19:57, second to Rick
Sudac (who's more than 50 years of age!) in a personal season's best of
20:20, and third overall went to our popular female visitor from New
Zealand, Meshy Holt with a time of 20:38. In case you're curious - If
the age handicaps are calculated as they were in the last couple of
years (nothing seems to be posted on the obcweb yet about this race),
Rick would get a 69 second advantage - ie., his time tonight would
equate with an age handicapped performance of 19:11. Concerning Meshy's
time, if we note that Chris Boardman's male hour record speed of 56.375
km/h is 17% faster than the similarly elite Jeannie Longo's female hour
record speed of 48.159 km/h, and IF we think that this 17% difference is
a reasonable speed gender handicap for women versus men, then increasing
Meshy's average speed by 17% would bring it up from 43.62 km/h to 51.04
km/h, which would correspond to a time of about 17:38 for 15km! (Her
earlier 20:06 result would translate to a 17:10). (Obviously this is a
very simple approximation - let the physicists/statisticians speak! I'd
love to generate age/gender handicapping pages for all of the TT's - but
only if we have some relatively sound method of doing so).

And on with the placings - Third place in the men went to Richard Hinz
with 21:02, a PSB by 4 seconds. Second place in the women was Allison
McKay with 23:19 (with a gender handicap as described above this would
be 19:56), and third to Jennifer Stephenson with 24:07 (which would
translate to 20:37 under the above gender handicapping method).
