Înţelegem că spaţiile deschise, inclusive, sunt cruciale pentru construcţia şi consolidarea unui oraş democratic în particular, şi a unei societăţi inclusive şi juste în general. De asemenea, înţelegem că statutul public, deschis şi democratic al spaţiliilor publice sunt ameninţate. Comercializarea (impunerea spaţiilor publice să funcţioneze pentru profit), securizarea (creşterea supravegherii), impunerea forţei poliţieneşti (excluderea utilizatorilor şi a comportamentelor nedorite) sunt câteva dintre procesele ce afectează accesul şi calitatea spaţiilor publice. Zilele Spaţiului Public au ca scop să adune împreună activişti, persoane responsabile de elaborarea politicilor, cetăţeni activi, intelectuali, arhitecţi şi publicul larg pentru a ridica gradul de conştientizare asupra unor subiecte ce vizează protecţia, democratizarea şi deschiderea spaţiilor publice, pentru a împărtăşi opinii şi reflecţii asupra transformărilor ce au loc în spaţiile publice, pentru a face schimb de practici, metode de organizare şi de acţiune colectivă, care asigură şi reproduc spaţiile publice democratice. It is our understanding that inclusive, open public spaces are crucial for building and fostering a democratic city in particular, and an inclusive and just society in general. It is also our understanding that the public, open and democratic character of public spaces in our cities is under threat. Commercialization (forcing public spaces to work for profit), securitization (increasing surveillance), policing (excluding undesirable users and behaviors) – are some of the process that affect the access and the quality of public spaces. The Public Space Days aim to bring together activists, policy makers, artists, active citizens, scholars, architects and the general public in order to raise awareness on topics concerning protection, democratization and opening of public spaces, to share insights and reflections on the transformations of public spaces, to share practices, ways of organizing and collective action that foster and reproduce democratic public spaces.
