Just a note on Mandrake 7.x Distro's. If you don't install Mandrake in
"development" mode from the start, you most likely will have incredible
problems getting anything to compile. The reason for this is that with GCC
2.95, Mandrake was forced to heavily modularize the various compiler,
libstdc, and glibc components. This makes installing the various components
from their RPM's a major pain. I found it easier to just install them when
I installed the O/S. In generall though, I would recommend 7.2 over 7.0. As
a development environment 7.0 has got some minor problems which become
major annoyances. You'll often find even after installing 7.0, that small
things like "standard" libraries are not available, or possibly installed
in weird places. One issue that comes to mind is the fact that when you
install a 7.0 development MySQL, and then upgrade the RPM, that the new
shared library modules are put in different places than the originals.
These issues are due to the fact that 7.0 was the first distribution which
packaged the 2.95 version of gcc. 7.1 is also fairly good, and I haven't
had too many problems. I did note with 7.2 though that when compiling
Obsequiem that the MySQL library modules had to be hand written into
ld.so.conf. I am not sure if this is a problem with my system, or the Obs
build procedure, though PHP seems to find the modules fine.. Though PHP
lets me define where to find them (*wink wink*)... Ah well.. such are the
trials of compiling code.

No, you just need the devel rpm -- the libstdc++ is only the libraries,
whereas the devel also includes the header files that obs needs in order
to compile.
