oh... I don't have the devel rpm installed. where can I pick that up so I
can try again and see if I can get it to work? my problem is that I get an
error when starting obsd that says libshout is not compiled into obsd. says
that i should install it and then recompile. thanks for the reply.

You have libshout 1.0.5 rpm installed -- did you install the libshout
1.0.5-devel rpm as well? You will need that in order for obs to see the
libshout library.
