I just put together the 0.4.0-pre1 release, after I finished up the
improved randomization function for DJ Random. DJ Random will now play
all the tracks in a DJ Random set before it repeats any one track. Boy,
this improvement was sorely needed -- however, there is still tons of
room for improvement out there.

If you're upgrading from an older version of Obs (even CVS from two days
ago), please make sure to run install-db.pl so that a new Random column
can be added to the Track table. All your existing data should remain
untouched.

I'll do a 0.4.0 release after I hammer out any bugs that will crop up.

You can download the new version from the website as usual:

and the needed perl modules:

Changes for version 0.4.0-pre1:

- Revamped the randomizer for DJ Random. Now uses lrand48() and a Random
column in the Track table to keep track of what files have already been
played. DJ Random will not repeat files now until all the files in
on DJ Random set have been played.
- Fixed configure problem where it wouldn't find the mysqclient libs,
since more recent versions of mysql need -lz to link properly.
- Revamped the playlist manager. The new batch oriented playlist mode
gives a lot more power to carry out simple tasks on a number of tracks
  at the same time.
- Added a top tracks page that shows the 100 most played tracks
- Added a history page that shows the time and status of the last 100 played
  tracks.
- Fixed problem where TrackNum was not leading 0 padded in CleanUp.pl
- Fixed uppercase/lowercase problem in the artist listing on the web
iterface where the index would sometimes jump to a wrong position.
- Now obs uses the MP3::Tag libraries from CPAN to read/write ID3v1/2 tags
- Fixed a problem where the configuration file reading code would lock up
  under RedHat 7.0
