Edit your Makefile.in and find this line:
SYSLIBS = -lmysqlclient -lpthread -lm
add a -lz at the end of it:
SYSLIBS = -lmysqlclient -lpthread -lm -lz
Then do:
make distclean
configure
make
And it should build ok. I just checked this change into CVS if you'd
prefer to update from CVS.
