It would be interesting to test this theory. I will have to look into
this. If reporting a message as spam gets auser banned then any list
user could ban someone which cause lots of problems.

Maybe google intelligently applies a banning based on the number of
groups the user has posted to and the number of spam reports.

Anyway for normal list users reporting the message as spam is the
right thing to do - rather than replying to the post. I as a list
admin also actively root out the spammers as soon as I see them
